Discipleship
Group Questions for October 10, 2004
Luke 17:11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the
border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was
going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance
13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show
yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One
of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud
voice. 16 He threw himself at
Jesus’ feet and thanked him — and he was a Samaritan.
Luke 17:17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are
the other nine? 18 Was no one
found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your
faith has made you well.”
Questions for Reflection:
- What
does God want the most for us? I
believe that the answer to this question is: “That we would love Him
and know His infinite love for us!
And then that we would be His beloved and obedient children – His
good and obedient disciples!” – please discuss.
- Please
discuss the following together: “What must you and I come to believe
at the very core of our being if we’re to become great disciples of
God? That we have a divine Father
who loves us and has a mission for us to accomplish.”
- Please
read the following verse: Rom. 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those
who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This
suggests that God is working minute by minute for good in our
lives!!! God is working minute by
minute for good in your life and mine!
But how much easier it is to believe that this world is ultimately
“random” or even “chaotic” and that nobody is in charge. Please discuss.
- If
you could tell God what needs to change in your life and you had a “God
Suggestion Box” in your e-mail that God checked daily – what suggestions
would you make?
- Could
it be that God, the Great Discipler, knows
what’s best for your life? Is it
conceivable to you that even those things that are “evil” in your life are
permitted by God for some “good” end?
Please discuss.
- Please
reflect on the following verses and discover what 2 cardinal virtues are
necessary that we would be able to see what God is doing in our lives: Phil. 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say
it again: Rejoice! 5 Let
your gentleness
(humility) be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. 7 And the
peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Please discuss why perhaps these are the
two cardinal virtues that allow us to see God at work in our lives.
- Please
study the passage from Luke above and reflect upon what it was about the
tenth leper that brought him into relationship with Christ.
- Thankfulness
– Are you thankful to God? How
thankful? Could you be more
thankful? Please discuss.
